Daily Bible Reading: John 21, Ezekiel 40-41

BREAKFAST BY THE SEA

It might be very difficult and very challenging for the disciples to continue by themselves what they used to do together with Jesus. Somehow, Peter and the disciples chose to go back with their old life, do the fishing again Jn.21:3. But then Jesus showed Himself again and He said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.” Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?”—knowing that it was the Lord. Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish Jn.21:12-13.

The disciples were speechless in the presence of Jesus. Jesus waited until they finished with that special breakfast and then asked: “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these Jn.21:15?” Indeed, that was the moment of restoration! Again, Jesus humbled Himself and He lifted Peter up from where he was, without put any pressure to Peter. At that moment Peter was not able to love Jesus just like what Jesus asked (Greek: agape). However, Jesus accepted the answer from Peter to love Jesus as much as he could (Greek: phileo).

Once, Elijah also was distressed and he wanted to die. But an angel touched him, and said to him, not only once but twice, “Arise and eat 1Ki.19:5-7.” Because of His love, God want His people to arise and shine. The devil always wants to bury believers with sadness, weakness, and failure. But Jesus always wants to restore His people. Do not run away from Jesus! Instead, come closer and let us have breakfast together with Him.

SARAPAN DI PINGGIR LAUT

Mungkin sangatlah sulit dan menantang bagi para murid untuk melanjutkan sendiri apa yang sudah biasa mereka lakukan bersama dengan Yesus. Entah bagaimana, Petrus dan para murid memilih untuk kembali pada kehidupan lama mereka, pergi menangkap ikan lagi Yoh.21:3. Namun kemudian Yesus menampakkan diri-Nya lagi dan Dia berkata pada mereka: “Marilah dan sarapanlah.” Tidak ada di antara murid-murid itu yang berani bertanya kepada-Nya: “Siapakah Engkau?” Sebab mereka tahu, bahwa Dia adalah Tuhan. Yesus maju ke depan, mengambil roti dan memberikannya kepada mereka, demikian juga ikan itu Yoh.21:12-13.

Murid-murid tidak dapat berkata apa-apa di hadapan Yesus. Yesus menunggu sampai mereka menyelesaikan sarapan istimewa itu dan kemudian bertanya: “Simon, anak Yohanes, apakah engkau mengasihi Aku lebih dari pada mereka ini Yoh.21:15?” Sesungguhnya, itu adalah momen pemulihan! Sekali lagi, Yesus merendahkan diri-Nya dan Dia mengangkat Petrus dari keberadaannya, tanpa memaksa Petrus. Pada saat itu Petrus tidak dapat mencintai Yesus seperti yang diminta Yesus (Yunani: agape). Namun, Yesus menerima jawaban dari Petrus untuk mencintai Yesus sesuai yang dia mampu (Yunani: phileo).

Suatu kali, Elia juga tertekan dan dia ingin mati. Tetapi seorang malaikat menyentuhnya, dan berkata kepadanya, bukan hanya sekali melainkan dua kali, “Bangunlah dan makanlah 1Raj.19:5-7.” Karena kasih-Nya, Allah ingin umat-Nya bangkit dan bersinar. Iblis selalu ingin mengubur orang percaya dengan kesedihan, kelemahan, dan kegagalan. Namun Yesus selalu ingin memulihkan umat-Nya. Jangan melarikan diri dari Yesus! Sebaliknya, datanglah lebih dekat dan marilah kita sarapan bersama dengan Dia.
