Daily Bible Reading: Revelation 4, Hosea 12-14

THE THRONE

The next vision John received was the vision of a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne Rev.4:2. Before John saw any important event that will take place at the end times, God wanted him to see something far more important than all of the events itself, and it is God! When believers have a desire to understand more about the end times, we must not focus in the events, instead we must keep focus in God and love God with all our heart.

John wrote: “And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald Rev.4:3.” Actually, the appearance of God is indescribable with our words. Back to those days, John understood jasper stone as the most precious stone Rev.21:11 and indeed God is far more than everything in this world.

John continued: “And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices Rev.4:5.” What John saw was exactly the same with what had happened on Mount Sinai. The Bible wrote: “Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off Exo.20:18.” The vision about the throne may make people tremble, but in fact everyone must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ 2Cor.5:10. The vision about the throne teach us to live in the right fear of the Lord 2Cor.5:11 and it will keep us to walk in holiness just like what the four living creatures keep saying day and night: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come Rev.4:8!”

TAKHTA

Penglihatan berikutnya yang diterima Yohanes adalah penglihatan tentang sebuah takhta terdiri di sorga, dan di takhta itu duduk Seorang Wah.4:2. Sebelum Yohanes melihat peristiwa penting lainnya yang akan terjadi di akhir zaman, Allah ingin dia melihat sesuatu yang jauh lebih penting daripada semua peristiwa itu sendiri, dan itu adalah Allah! Ketika orang percaya memiliki kerinduan untuk lebih memahami tentang akhir zaman, kita tidak boleh fokus pada peristiwa-peristiwa, sebaliknya kita harus tetap berfokus pada Allah dan mencintai Allah dengan segenap hati kita.

Yohanes menulis: “Dan Dia yang duduk di takhta itu nampaknya bagaikan permata yaspis dan permata sardis; dan suatu pelangi melingkungi takhta itu gilang-gemilang bagaikan zamrud rupanya Wah.4:3.” Sesungguhnya penampilan Allah tidak dapat terlukiskan dengan kata-kata kita. Pada zaman itu, Yohanes memahami permata yaspis sebagai permata yang paling indah Wah.21:11 dan sesungguhnya Allah jauh melebihi segalanya di dalam dunia ini.

Yohanes melanjutkan: “Dan dari takhta itu keluar kilat dan bunyi guruh yang menderu, dan tujuh obor menyala-nyala di hadapan takhta itu: itulah ketujuh Roh Allah Wah.4:5.” Apa yang dilihat Yohanes sama persis dengan yang terjadi di atas gunung Sinai. Alkitab menulis: ”Seluruh bangsa itu menyaksikan guruh mengguntur, kilat sabung-menyabung, sangkakala berbunyi dan gunung berasap. Maka bangsa itu takut dan gemetar dan mereka berdiri jauh-jauh Kel.20:18.” Penglihatan tentang takhta mungkin membuat orang gemetar, namun pada kenyataannya semua orang harus menghadap takhta pengadilan Kristus 2Kor.5:10. Penglihatan tentang takhta mengajari kita untuk hidup dalam rasa takut akan Tuhan akan benar 2Kor.5:11 dan itu akan membuat kita tetap berjalan di dalam kesucian seperti yang dikatakan keempat makhluk hidup itu siang dan malam: “Kudus, kudus, kuduslah Tuhan Allah, Yang Mahakuasa, yang sudah ada dan yang ada dan yang akan datang Wah.4:8!”
