THE SCORPIONS’ POWER

The fifth trumpet bring such a great calamity for those who are left behind from the rapture. John saw something so horrible, he wrote: “Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power Rev.9:3.” For so many times, the locusts were written in the Bible to bring destruction. It was first mentioned when God brought the eighth plague to Egypt so that there remained nothing green on the trees or on the plants of the field throughout all the land of Egypt Ex.10:15.

But the locusts that John saw was totally different since they have different power, which is the power of the scorpions! They were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man Rev.9:5. Indeed, it will be a great disaster for people in the days of antichrist! In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them Rev.9:6.

Definitely it will be a great tribulation for those who are still in this world, but it is not everything yet since John wrote: “One woe is past. Behold, still two more woes are coming after these things Rev.9:12.” Unfortunately, John wrote how the mankind in those days decide not to repent of the works of their hands Rev.9:20. Repentance become so rare in those days! That’s why it is very important for believers to have a good attitude of repentance today, not tomorrow Heb.3:15.

KUASA KALAJENGKING-KALAJENGKING

Sangkakala kelima membawa malapetaka yang begitu besar bagi mereka yang tertinggal pengangkatan. Yohanes melihat sesuatu yang sangat mengerikan, dia menulis: “Dan dari asap itu berkeluaranlah belalang-belalang ke atas bumi dan kepada mereka diberikan kuasa sama seperti kuasa kalajengking-kalajeng di bumi Wah.9:3.” Untuk kesekian kali, belalang ditulis dalam Alkitab untuk membawa kehancuran. Hal itu pertama kali disebutkan ketika Allah mengirimkan tulah kedelapan ke Mesir sehingga tidak ada tinggal lagi yang hijau pada pohon atau tumbuh-tumbuhan di padang di seluruh tanah Mesir Kel.10:15.

Namun belalang yang dilihat Yohanes sangatlah berbeda karena mereka memiliki kuasa yang berbeda, yaitu kuasa kalajengking! Mereka diperkenankan bukan untuk membunuh manusia, melainkan hanya untuk menyiksa mereka lima bulan lamanya, dan siksaan itu seperti siksaan kalajengking, apabila ia menyengat manusia Wah.9:5. Sesungguhnya, itu akan menjadi bencana besar bagi orang-orang di zaman antikristus! Pada masa itu orang-orang akan mencari maut, tetapi mereka tidak akan menemukannya, dan mereka akan ingin mati, tetapi maut lari dari mereka Wah.9:6.

Hal itu pastilah akan menjadi kesusahan yang besar bagi mereka yang masih ada di dunia ini, namun itu bukanlah segalanya karena Yohanes menulis: “Celaka yang pertama sudah lewat. Sekarang akan menyusul dua celaka lagi Wah.9:12.” Sayangnya, Yohanes menulis bagaimana manusia pada saat itu memutuskan untuk tidak bertobat dari perbuatan tangan mereka Wah.9:20. Pertobatan menjadi sangat langka pada hari-hari itu! Itulah sebabnya sangat penting bagi orang percaya untuk memiliki sikap pertobatan yang baik hari ini, bukan besok Ibr.3:15.
