Daily Bible Reading: John 14, Ezekiel 18-19

HOMESICK

We are not supposed to call this world as our home. Jesus said: “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also Jn.14:2-3.” Jesus had prepared a better place that we can call it as our home!

Abraham was also called out from his country to receive better home. The Bible wrote: “But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them Heb.11:16.” Truly, God had prepared something better and eternal for His people. Just like Abraham who was desiring an eternal homeland and did not return to the country from which they had come out, so believers must also have a strong desire for the place that Jesus had made ready for us.

Paul also wrote: “For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless, to remain in the flesh is more needful for you Phil.1:23-24.” Paul encouraged believers to always have a desire to be with Christ so that we will not make this world as our home. Let us have a good homesick because our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ Phil.3:20.

RINDU RUMAH

Kita tidak seharusnya menyebut dunia ini sebagai rumah kita. Yesus berkata: “Di rumah Bapa-Ku banyak tempat tinggal. Jika tidak demikian, tentu Aku mengatakannya kepadamu. Sebab Aku pergi ke situ untuk menyediakan tempat bagimu. Dan apabila Aku telah pergi ke situ dan telah menyediakan tempat bagimu, Aku akan datang kembali dan membawa kamu ke tempat-Ku, supaya di tempat di mana Aku berada, kamupun berada Yoh.14:2-3.” Yesus telah menyediakan tempat lebih baik yang mana kita dapat memanggilknya sebagai rumah kita!

Abraham juga dipanggil dari negeri asalnya untuk menerima rumah yang lebih baik. Alkitab menulis, ”Tetapi sekarang mereka merindukan tanah air yang lebih baik yaitu satu tanah air sorgawi. Sebab itu Allah tidak malu disebut Allah mereka, karena Ia telah mempersiapkan sebuah kota bagi mereka Ibr.11:16.” Sesungguhnya, Allah telah mempersiapkan sesuatu yang lebih baik dan kekal bagi umat-Nya. Sama seperti Abraham yang merindukan tanah air yang kekal dan tidak kembali lagi ke negeri asal mereka, demikian pula orang percaya juga harus memiliki kerinduan yang kuat untuk tempat yang telah disediakan Yesus untuk kita.

Paulus juga menulis: “Aku didesak dari dua pihak: aku ingin pergi dan diam bersama-sama dengan Kristus, itu memang jauh lebih baik; tetapi lebih perlu untuk tinggal di dunia ini karena kamu Flp.1:23-24.” Paulus mendorong orang percaya supaya selalu memiliki kerinduan untuk bersama dengan Kristus agar kita tidak menjadikan dunia ini sebagai rumah kita. Marilah kita memiliki kerinduan yang baik akan rumah karena kewargaan kita adalah di dalam sorga, dan dari situ juga kita menantikan Tuhan Yesus Kristus sebagai Juruselamat Flp.3:20.
