WHAT MONEY CAN’T BUY
Simon, the sorcerer in Samaria, gave his life to Jesus. He believed, baptized, and kept following Philip, amazed as miracles and signs happened by the ministry of Philip. But he still had one big problem that revealed when Peter was doing the baptism of Holy Spirit. He thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money Ac.8:19-20.
There are 2 things that we can learn from this case. First, being a disciple does not mean that we will be perfect straight away. Disciples must be faithful to keep following the teacher as time will reveal everything in their heart. The problem inside Simon’s heart came up to the surface so that the apostles could help him and pray for him. He was not only put his trust in his money but also, he had problem with bitterness and bound by iniquity Ac.8:23.
Second, the gift of God is something what money can’t buy! God will give His gifts to His children as He wills 1Cor.12:11 for the benefit of the body of Christ Eph.4:11-13. Philip was not able to do something just like what Peter did, but Philip didn’t bother himself with that as he understood his position in the body of Christ. How wonderful is that when we know what is our role in the body of Christ so that we can focus in our part, and then work beautifully with another member of the body of Christ.
SESUATU YANG TIDAK DAPAT DIBELI DENGAN UANG
Simon, tukang sihir di Samaria, memberikan hidupnya kepada Yesus. Dia percaya, dibaptis, dan terus bersama-sama dengan Filipus, takjub dengan mujizat dan tanda-tanda yang terjadi dalam pelayanan Filipus. Tetapi ternyata dia masih memiliki satu masalah besar yang terungkap ketika Petrus sedang melakukan baptisan Roh Kudus. Ia berpikir bahwa karunia Allah dapat dibeli dengan uang Kis.8:19-20.
Ada 2 hal yang bisa kita pelajari dari kasus ini. Pertama, menjadi seorang murid bukan berarti kita menjadi sempurna seketika. Murid-murid harus setia untuk terus mengikuti gurunya karena perjalanan waktu akan mengungkapkan segala sesuatu di hatinya. Masalah di dalam hati Simon muncul ke permukaan sehingga para rasul dapat membantunya dan berdoa untuknya. Dia tidak hanya menaruh kepercayaan pada uangnya tetapi dia juga memiliki masalah dengan kepahitan dan terjerat dalam kejahatan Kis.8:23.
Kedua, karunia Allah adalah sesuatu yang tidak bisa dibeli dengan uang! Allah akan memberikan karunia-Nya kepada anak-anak-Nya seperti yang Dia kehendaki 1Kor.12:11 untuk kepentingan tubuh Kristus Ef.4:11-13. Filipus tidak dapat melakukan apa yang Petrus lakukan, tetapi Filipus tidak menyusahkan dirinya dengan hal itu karena dia memahami posisinya di dalam tubuh Kristus. Betapa indahnya ketika kita mengetahui apa peran kita dalam tubuh Kristus sehingga kita dapat fokus pada bagian kita, dan kemudian bekerja dengan indah bersama anggota tubuh Kristus yang lain.
